Welcome

The Square Residents' Committee has been awarded a £3,000 Sustainable City Grant by Cambridge City Council for an Energy Project on The Square (i.e., Woodlark, Eachard, Hoadly and parts of Sherlock Roads [for those who aren't familiar with the term]).

The Square Energy Project has arisen in response to rising household energy costs. In addition, 27% of the UK's carbon emissions are generated in the home which directly contributes to global warming.

We all know energy efficiency makes sense both to our pockets and the environment. But what exactly can households do?

The aim of The Square Energy Project is to help households find out what to do by:

An average house emits 6 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2).

The Square has 156 residences (mainly houses). Due to the 1930's construction of our homes, they are not normally the most energy efficient. As a collection of homes, we could be emitting 936 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year just from our homes.

The overall aim of this project is to see if we can reduce the tonnes of CO2 we emit and support the challenge of doing our bit to reduce climate change.
